Student Programs/Enrichment

• Introduction to Spanish Culture: Flamenco Workshop (High School)
  Daniella Quinones
  This grant funded a flamenco dance workshop and a lesson on flamenco's cultural history by a professional dance instructor for students in Spanish II.
• Medfield High School Advisory Program (High School)
  Jeff Sperling
  This grant supports the development and implementation for a small group advisory program for all high school students.
• Honeybees, Beekeeping and Gardening (Memorial School)
  Kathy Ravinski
  This grant funded the purchase of instructional materials and equipment on the hobby of beekeeping as well as start up supplies to create a raised bed garden where students can actually participate in beekeeping outside their classroom.
• ICollect Display Case (Memorial School)
  Randie Groden
  This grant funded the purchase of a display case for the Memorial School library where children will have the opportunity to showcase personal collections and present them to their peers.

Performance/Presentation

• Rachel's Challenge (High School)

  This grant co-funded with the Boosters provided an inspirational and motivating assembly that delivers a message of kindness, compassion and awareness of marginalized students.
• Speaker Chris Herren (High School)
  Jeff Sperling
  This grant funded a presentation to high school upper classmen by speaker Chris Herren a former athlete, recovered drug addict and published author of his memoir "Basketball Junkie".
• The Wagner Percussion Workshop (Blake Middle School)
  Cynthia Dalpe and Heather Gonzalez - Gr 8 Foreign Language Dept
  The grant funded the "Wagner Percussion Workshop" performance in March 2012 at the Middle School to celebrate Foreign Language Week. The grant supported interpretive communication and understanding of other cultures within the state curriculum frameworks for music.
• The Revels: An American Journey (Dale St. School)
  Heidi Crable and Dale Street CSA
  This grant funded the Performing Arts Series "An American Journey" that recreates a voyage where immigrants share their stories, songs and dances. The performance complemented the new Standards-Based Social Studies Curriculum at the Dale Street School.
• SEPAC Community Enrichment Initiative (System Wide)
  Tonya Sullivan
  This grant funded a speaker series that will promote a better understanding of children with special needs to the community. Featured speakers include Sara Ward a specialist on executive function issues and Eileen Costello, M.D. author of "Quirky Kids."
• Jon Mattleman Presentation Talking with your Teens About Substance Abuse (High School)
  Marie Foley
  This grant funded speaker Jon Mattleman a Needham based psychologist who presented information to parents about teen substance abuse in conjunction with the findings in Medfield of the Metrowest Adolescent Health Survey.

Equipment

• MHS Auditorium Showcase Project (High School)
  Doug Olson
  This grant partially funded the construction of a trophy and awards case at the High School Auditorium.
• Child Care and Development Real Care Baby II (High School)
  Adele Hardy
  This grant funded the purchase of 10 new infant simulators that challenge teenagers to care for a baby 24 hours a day letting them experience parenthood in as realistic way as possible.

Computer/Technology

• Interactive Whiteboards to Go (Wheelock School)
  Teri O’Brien
  This grant funded the purchase of two MimeoTeach Interactive whiteboards providing a portable instructional tool to take to any classroom at Wheelock.
• Math Document Camera (High School)
  Luanne Galt, Jane Woods, Jessica Safer
  This grant provided document cameras for the Math Department allowing teachers to present materials more efficiently to their classes.
• Document Cameras and Tablets (Blake Middle School)
  Melissa Hatchel
  This grant funded the purchase of three document cameras and portable tablets to be used in the 7th grade math classes.
• Document Cameras (Dale Street School)
  Teri O’Brien and Kathleen Curran
  This grant funded the purchase of eight Elmo document cameras for use by Dale Street School teachers and specialists.
• Macbook and Software for a Fine Arts Website Development (Blake Middle School)
  Jim Cousens
  This grant funded the purchase of a Macbook and software that will be used to create and maintain a fine arts website for the school district as well as provide a viewing forum of student work to the community.

Professional Development

• NEASCD Conference (Blake Middle School)
  Nathaniel Vaughn
  This grant funded the registration fee for nine staff from Blake to attend a curriculum development conference that focused on curriculum keeping pace with technology in the classroom.
• iPad and Training Seminar (Memorial School)
  Randie Groden
  This grant funded an iPad and training seminar that focused on teaching applications of the iPad to elementary age children.
• When Readers Struggle: After Hours Textbook Purchase (Memorial and Wheelock Schools)
  Jamee Callahan
  This grant funded the purchase of textbooks for a professional education course offered to Wheelock and Memorial teachers of at risk readers.
