Connecting to Our Local Environment: 7th Grade Community Scientists
Blake Middle School
Students will deepen their understanding of environmental science by participating in lessons and hands-on activities that connect directly to the local environment. Through three locally-focused projects, students will support pollinator populations by distributing hummingbird feeders, planting pollinator gardens, and building and installing bat boxes. These projects will offer students practical experience in promoting biodiversity, fostering environmental stewardship, and learning about the critical role pollinators play in ecosystems.

In order to inspire students of varying interests, this grant would enable students to learn the technical skills and consider the aesthetic concerns in order to create quality photographs. Including athletic events and student athletes would increase motivation to learn photography skills because of the relevant subject matter. Connecting sports images with narrative visual story-telling stimulates creativity and creates connections between visual art and sports.
